After endless teasers on Instagram, we finally have the single drop and video for a posse cut that’s also supposed to be reggaeton super producer Tainy’s “solo” debut… “I Can’t Get Enough”.
I’ve been a fan of Tainy for a while having gotten to know him from his work on Wisin & Yandel’s early decade output. Given that his production style isn’t as predictable as other “Ubrano” producers, I was excited about his solo project announcement. Throw in added star power from pop radio nymph Selena Gomez and reggaeton mega star J Balvin and the stage was set for a massive 2019 takeover. Soooooo…. it was a heartbreaking that my response was “uhhhh… ok” after listening to “I Can’t…” for the first time. Firstly, the track sounds like a retread of Balvin’s “Mi Gente” and the lyrics/hook don’t offer anything to get excited about. It’s three and half minutes of “meh”; the song doesn’t ever go anywhere and if you’ve heard the first 30 seconds, well then you’ve pretty much heard the entire thing.
Now that the video is out my opinion has changed… a little. The song IS still basic, but watching the artists jump around on a ginormous bed at least made listening to the entire track less of a chore. I’m assuming the huge chain was a nod to Tainy’s recent Chanel obsession and Benny Blacno in the bear suit was… well, I’m not sure what that was.
Check out the video below and decide for yourself if “I Can’t Get Enough” is worth repeated viewing/listens. I will, in the meantime, hold out hope that there are more adventurous offerings waiting on Tainy’s debut album.
