While it seems he’s been busier playing Ken to Taylor Swift’s Barbie as of late, DJ/producer Calvin Harris has taken a momentary break from paparazzi documented hand holding with T. Swizzle and crafted another summer jam for the dancefloor masses.
His recent output has been of the predictable, radio friendly EDM variety, so it’s a bit of a surprise that “How Deep Is Your Love” is 1) Not a Bee Gees cover and 2) IS still aiming for the clubs but is less “peak hour” and more “late night”. Cal hooked up with London based production trio Disciples and Norwegian vocalist Ira Wroldsen, gave the aggressive keyboard riffs and clichè beat drops a rest and emerged from the recording studio with a track that continues the U.K.‘s ongoing love affair with 90’s-inspired deep house.
“How Deep Is Your Love” may not get the same kind of love from Top 40 radio as some of his recent material, but at least it suggests that Taylor’s boo thang is willing to evolve past the by-the-numbers Jersey shore jams formula in favor of something with a bit more substance.
