OK, so I’m on a roll now with this “artists I know/know of” theme so let’s keep it going with a Q’s Views post featuring Cherie Lily’s latest shoutout to “the children”, a lil’ club banger called “Body”. Don’t let the song title and the leotard fool you though, this definitely ain’t no update of Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical”.
Cherie has been doin’ her thing on the underground dance music scene in NYC for a while now and last year she released the Dripping Wet EP, a new collection of jams aimed at twirling kids and the dancefloors that love them. “Body” is featured on the EP and it finds La Lily in full on vintage Salt ‘n’ Pepa mode rhyming over a beat that suggests that mama is angling for the song to become a go to staple for the ball community. As for the video, there is the expected bodyliciousness throughout but the clip is also an orgy of ponytail swinging shenanigans that renders Tamar’s attempt needless and the comical antics of those Jose & Luis 2.0 dancers obviously recall “Vogue”-era Madonna. Amidst the go-go boy bump ‘n’ grinds and the prancing queens, though, is Miss Cherie proving that she’s got the goodies to back up her lyrics.
“Servin’ up body” and other house/ball staples, Cherie Lily has crafted a single and video that absolutely deserves “10s across the board.” Pick up a copy of the single and the full-bodied remixes by clicking here.
