OK, I championed this song when it dropped back in September. Then, I was all set to blog about the video but Daley’s label thoughtfully made it completely unavailable in the U.S. upon its initial release. The clip’s viral velvet rope has since been opened to include us Americans and I’ve finally gotten around to giving it a shoutout.
After D’s stellar ballad heavy Those Who Wait mixtape debut last year, it was nice to see him step up the tempo with his official debut single “Remember Me”. Along for the funky ride is Jessie J, who earns points for being unrecognizably glam one minute and then loses points for including that knockoff Catwoman bodysuit as part of her sexy makeover efforts.
The video is a simple but effective montage of Daley and “not that” Miss J on a soundstage intercut with props that highlight the “karma is a ‘you know what’” lyrical storyline. Its a simple concept, and it works as does the chemistry between the two singers.
With his recent appearance on the Soul Train Awards, 2013 is shaping up to be a big year for Daley with his label set to parlay the modest success of “Remember Me” into full-fledged R&B stardom with the release of a full length album and an opening spot on Miguel’s upcoming tour. Grade: B-
