Today’s episode of Bad A$$ Kids is brought to you by Jack White! With his debut album Blunderbuss set for an April 24th release, The White Party officially kicks into high gear with the release of the video for “Sixteen Saltines”.
The video opens with a montage of scenes of mid-America blight before we find a paritially bound J. Whi, along with some skeletal ghostly, long-haired teens, in an abandoned house being accosted by a scary dirty blue young ‘un with a look in his eyes that suggests that the rope in his hands d*mn sure ain’t for no game of double dutch.
Private school girls playing hopscotch with severed fingers, a cough syrup chugging boy with a fondness for prison workouts, a levitating black kid and his deserted lot dance party homies, a couple of dudes gettin’ crunk off of gas masks and ceiling sandwiches, a cheerleader who says “Eff Kelis” and brings her milkshake to the boy, a fruit loving pre-teen casket dweller, some 12 year old getting his face tatt on… yes, “Sixteen Saltines” is basically an after-school Nickelodeon special as seen through the eyes of a homicidal meth head prone to hallucinations and violent outbursts.
And while Pitbull is indeed everywhere, the ones in this video are not rocking Easter Sunday suits, shouting out bisexual pole dancers or bigging up “the 305”; no, these ominous pups serve as the video’s “oh sh*t” accessories to the cast of creepy kids. By the end, the crazy blue boy takes out a lighter and commences a literal interpretation of a Jack White roast. I’m not sure what the meaning is behind this portrait of a middle America as a decaying wasteland populated by Children Of The Damned but the visuals sure do grab your attention!
Is “Sixteen Saltines” a dope video? Well yeah, but any parent who watches the clip is sure to jot this down in their nightmare journal considering the clip’s subversive, cracked out Bieber-generation-gone-wild motif. Grade: A
