While the ride has been on/off, I’ve been stanning for Jon Bellion since 2012 after hearing his take on Drake’s “The Motto”. He has since gone on to release several free albums, pen hits for Eminem & Rihanna, handle hook duties for a Zedd radio single and amass a pretty strong following all without the aid of a huge major label push. Not what he’s signed to Capitol Records though, his status as “dope indie artist” will soon be replaced by the dreaded-by-some “mainstream” label as this guy is too good to be only be appreciated by some.
The Human Condition is his first album on Capitol and the first one that is available for purchase. A seemingly autobiographical collection of songs that seamlessly fuses pop, hip hop, R&B, psychedelic rock and gospel, the album’s lyrical focus is Bellion’s ruminations on love, personal growth and the struggles to stay grounded when pop stardom beckons. While I haven’t fully digested the album, early faves of mine are “Morning In America”, “80s Films”, “Guillotine” and last year’s “All Time Low”.
Sample the album below and then head over to your digital retailer of choice and get your copy!
P.S. The artwork for this project is kinda dope too… get into it!
