Can you picture Katy Perry as a fierce house diva capable of Barbara Tucker-esque club bangers?——yeah, me neither.  However, the joke is on the both of with the release of the Treasure Fingers remix of KayKay’s mega-hit “Roar”.

Mr. Fingers, not to be confused with the original, is an ATL-based DJ/producer who wisely took “Roar” in a different direction from the other generic, by-the-numbers, bland beat remixes released by K.P.‘s record label.  The booming drums and “Hard Knock Life” piano clinks of the original glossy hip pop production are gone and supporting Katy’s now cleverly chopped and screwed vocals is a 90’s house groove that sounds like the musical lovechild of a pair of Masters at Work and Marc “MK” Kinchen classics.

Kudos to Treasure Fingers for crafting a mix that non only showcases his production skills, but also includes enough of the original so that you don’t forget that it is, after all, a Katy Perry remix.  Check out Miz “I Kissed A Girl”‘s house music makeover below and if ya like what you hear, then be sure to click here for a free download(!) of the mix being offered by Treasure himself.

Though I tend to favor mixes with more vocals, I’m a bit partial to T.F.‘s dub mix of “Roar”...

If you like Treasure Fingers’ work on K. Perr’s latest you can also sample some of his original material below.  Nothing grabbed me like his “Roar” remix, but they’re worth a spin…
