Shoutout to the music supervisor over at How To Get Away With Murder! The show’s soundtrack is the darker, kinkier cousin to Shonda Rhimes’s other Thursday night smash Scandal, which opts for wholesome R&B classics of the Al Green/Aretha variety. Murder is the one show where I’m sure to have an Olivia Pope wine glass in one hand and a Shazam ready phone in the other!
Tonight’s mid-season premiere continues the fine tradition of me asking “What IS that song?!?!” as I put Annalise’s current legal woes on hold so that I could introduce myself to Mansionair. Their Wikipedia page describes the group as an “indie rock act currently based in Seattle” though current(?) single “Easier” sounds like a musical marriage between The Weeknd and Disclosure’s “You & Me”.
The video takes what would probably be a typical So You Think You Can Dance contemporary duet and gives the choreo a stronger visual punch courtesy of a bit of trippy 3D animation. They’re grains of sand! They’re paper mâché! The fluidity of the special effects is the perfect complement to the dancers’ movement. It’s a deceptively simple concept in that bringing the idea to fruition was probably the biggest challenge.
Find out more about Mansionair by checking out their website after getting into the acid trippiness of “Easier”.
